Child Support Enforcement Project

Pro Bono Legal Services · New York City

You have rights.
We're here to help.

Free, confidential pro bono legal services for custodial parents on Staten Island.

How we help

We turn court orders into real support.

If you have a child support order and the other parent isn't paying, you don't have to face Family Court alone. Our attorneys represent you at no cost.

01

File enforcement petitions

We prepare and file violation petitions in Richmond County Family Court and stand beside you at every appearance.

02

Collect what's owed

We pursue money judgments on unpaid arrears — judgments that accrue interest until every dollar is paid.

03

Hold nonpayers accountable

When nonpayment is willful, the law has teeth: license suspension, wage garnishment, and in serious cases, jail.

04

Keep services free

New York law allows courts to order the nonpaying parent to cover attorney's fees. Those recovered fees fund our work — you never pay a dime.

Do I qualify?

You may qualify for free representation if all four of these are true:

  1. 1You live on Staten Island (Richmond County).
  2. 2You already have a court order awarding you child support.
  3. 3The other parent is at least 90 days behind on payments.
  4. 4Your household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
